Heat Iron Butt Fusion for Polyethylene Pipe Hydraulic

The most widely used method for joining individual lengths of PE pipe and pipe to PE fittings is by heat fusion of the pipe butt ends. This technique produces a permanent, economical and flow-efficient connection. Quality butt fusion joints are produced by using trained operators and quality butt fusion machines in good condition. Butt fusion is not approved for 1¼ inch iron pipe size (IPS) or smaller tubing.

Butt fusion joints can be made mechanically or hydraulically. When making a butt fusion joint mechanically, the force is applied manually by the individual making the connection. When making a butt fusion joint hydraulically, the force is applied using a hydraulic butt fusion machine using specific pre-set pressures. The mechanical method can be used on pipe sizes 2 inch through 4 inch and hydraulic can be used on 4 inch through 8 inch.
